Byron Scott

Byron Antom Scott, born on March 28, 1961, is a retired American basketball player and coach who made significant contributions to the NBA. He is best known for his tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers during their iconic Showtime era in the 1980s, where he secured three NBA championships. Scott's impactful career as a player was complemented by his later achievements as a coach, notably earning the NBA Coach of the Year award in 2008 while leading the New Orleans Hornets, now known as the Pelicans.

Raised in Inglewood, California, Scott honed his skills at Morningside High School, located near The Forum, the former home of the Lakers. He continued his basketball journey at Arizona State University, where he played for three years and left an indelible mark on the program. Scott was recognized as the Pac-10 Freshman of the Year in 1980 and earned First-team All-Pac-10 honors in 1983, finishing his collegiate career with an impressive average of 17.5 points per game. After declaring for the 1983 NBA Draft, he transitioned to the professional level. In recognition of his contributions to Arizona State basketball, his jersey number 11 was retired in 2011, celebrating his legacy at the university. Scott's influence on the game extends beyond his playing days, marking him as a significant figure in basketball history.
