Tommy Dysart
Tommy Dysart (24 December 1935 - 7 June 2022) was a Scottish actor who made Australia his home and became a prominent figure in the country's television landscape over several decades. Renowned for his versatile acting skills, Dysart frequently took on guest roles in various drama series and comedies, as well as character parts in films and miniseries.
Among his notable early performances were appearances in productions such as Skippy the Bush Kangaroo, Phoenix Five, and multiple roles in Crawford Productions' police dramas Homicide, Division 4, and Matlock Police.
In the early 1980s, Dysart gained significant recognition for his portrayal of the ruthless and corrupt prison officer Jock Stewart in the acclaimed series Prisoner. His character's shocking confession to prisoner Judy Bryant about murdering her lover, fellow inmate Sharon Gilmour, not only concluded a gripping murder-mystery arc but also spurred a prolonged narrative where Bryant sought revenge through her repeated escapes from prison.
Following this breakout role, Dysart continued to thrive in guest-starring capacities across various television dramas and comedies while also featuring in notable films such as The Man from Snowy River (1982), Bliss (1985), Garbo (1992), and Flynn (1996). The 1990s saw him in series including All Together Now, The Games, State Coroner, Blue Heelers, Something in the Air, and Neighbours. He also lent his voice to Captain Griswald in the animated short film The Mysterious Geographic Explorations of Jasper Morello (2005).
Dysart became well-known for his memorable appearances in Yellow Pages commercials, portraying a man seeking mechanics for his troublesome Goggomobil, and for his recurring role as a Mafia-like butcher in Don's Smallgoods advertisements.
In the early 2000s, he revived his Goggomobil character for Shannons Insurance, which led to a legal dispute with Telstra. Despite the
