Saori Sugimoto
Saori Sugimoto (杉本 沙織, Sugimoto Saori), born on November 17, 1964, in Fujisawa City, Kanagawa Prefecture, was a prominent Japanese voice actress and narrator, known for her versatility and engaging performances. She was affiliated with Aoni Production and previously performed under the name Saori Suzuki (鈴木 砂織, Suzuki Saori).
Sugimoto gained recognition for taking over the character of Kisanta Yamamura in the long-running animated series Nintama Rantarō starting from its twelfth season. Her work in children's entertainment included voicing Ramurin in the beloved Shima Shima Tora no Shimajirō series, where she later transitioned to the character Nyakkii after Ramurin's departure. Sugimoto's contributions extended to various films in the Shimajiro franchise, including titles such as Shimajiro and Fufu's Big Adventure (2013), Shimajiro and the Whale's Song (2014), and Shimajiro and the Mother Tree (2015). She continued to lend her voice to the series over the years, with her final role in Shimajiro and The Prince of Glittering Kingdom (2022), released posthumously.
Tragically, Saori Sugimoto passed away on October 21, 2021, due to heart failure associated with anorexia. Her legacy remains through her captivating performances and the joy she brought to audiences, particularly children, throughout her career.
