John Entwistle

John Alec Entwistle (October 9, 1944 – June 27, 2002) was a renowned English musician celebrated primarily for his role as the bassist for the iconic rock band The Who. A multifaceted artist, Entwistle was also a skilled songwriter, singer, horn player, and producer, leaving an indelible mark on the music industry. His innovative approach to the bass guitar, characterized by aggressive lead lines and a distinctive trebly tone achieved with roundwound RotoSound steel strings, set a new benchmark for rock bassists.

Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame alongside The Who in 1990, Entwistle's influence extended far beyond his band. He amassed an impressive collection of over 200 instruments throughout his life, showcasing his preference for various brands that evolved over the decades. In the 1960s, he favored Fender and Rickenbacker basses, switched to Gibson and Alembic models in the 1970s, embraced Warwick in the 1980s, and ultimately utilized Status all-Carbon fibre basses in the 1990s.
