Douglas Geoffrey McGrath (February 2, 1958 – November 3, 2022) was a multifaceted American screenwriter, film director, and actor, recognized for his contributions to the entertainment industry through numerous prestigious nominations, including an Academy Award, a BAFTA Award, a Tony Award, and a Primetime Emmy Award.

McGrath began his professional journey as a writer for the iconic television show Saturday Night Live between 1980 and 1981. He co-authored the screenplay for Woody Allen's Bullets Over Broadway (1994), which earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay, along with nominations from BAFTA and the Writers Guild of America. His directorial work includes notable films such as Emma (1996), Company Man (2000), Nicholas Nickleby (2002), and Infamous (2006). Additionally, he showcased his acting talents in films like Quiz Show (1994), The Daytrippers (1996), Happiness (1998), The Insider (1999), and Michael Clayton (2007).

On television, he portrayed Principal Toby Cook in Lena Dunham's HBO series Girls from 2015 to 2016. He also appeared in the Amazon Prime comedy Crisis in Six Scenes (2016) and the Netflix miniseries Godless (2017).

In 2014, McGrath received a Tony Award nomination for Best Book of a Musical for his work on Beautiful: The Carole King Musical.
