Ron Tarr

1 title Acting Nov 14, 1936 Died: Oct 20, 1997 Willesden, Middlesex, England, UK

Ronald Lawrence Morisco-Tarr, widely recognized as Ron Tarr and affectionately dubbed 'Big' Ron, was a distinguished British actor celebrated for his imposing physique and beard. Born in Willesden, Middlesex, England, he embarked on his acting journey in 1973 with a role in the Carry On film series, specifically *Carry On Girls*, where he portrayed a bearded audience member. This marked the beginning of a prolific career that saw him appear in various television series, including notable titles like *Doctor Who*, *Blake’s 7*, *Space: 1999*, *Are You Being Served?*, *The Gentle Touch*, *The Comic Strip Presents: 5 Go Mad in Dorset*, and *Dramarama*.

In addition to his television work, Tarr made memorable contributions to film, featuring in productions such as *A View to a Kill*, *Eat the Rich* (where he also appeared in a cameo for the accompanying Motorhead music video), and *Willow*. However, he is perhaps best remembered for his portrayal of Big Ron in the iconic BBC soap opera *EastEnders*, where he served as the affable market trader from the show’s debut in 1985 until his tragic passing from cancer in October 1997 at the age of 60. Despite being a supporting character with limited central plots, Tarr’s presence was a reliable source of strength among the main cast during tumultuous moments. Following his death, he was featured in pre-recorded episodes, and, to address his character's absence, Big Ron was written out of the show in early 1998 after winning the lottery and relocating to Spain.
