Ashanti Shequoiya Douglas, born on October 13, 1980, is a multi-talented American recording artist, record producer, and actress who gained prominence in the early 2000s. She burst onto the scene with her self-titled debut album in April 2002, which included the chart-topping single "Foolish." The album achieved remarkable success, selling over 503,000 copies in its first week, a record for a new female artist at the time, surpassing the debuts of Alicia Keys and Lauryn Hill. In that same week, Ashanti made history by holding the top two positions on the Billboard Hot 100 with "Foolish" and "What's Luv?" (featuring Fat Joe). She also became the first woman to have three songs in the top ten simultaneously, trailing only The Beatles in this achievement.

By 2003, her debut album earned her a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary R&B Album. Over her career, Ashanti has sold more than 27 million albums globally and was the third top new R&B artist of the decade from 2000 to 2009, following Alicia Keys and Beyoncé.
