Kees Brusse

Kees Brusse (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈkeːz ˈbrʏsə]; 26 February 1925 – 9 December 2013) was a prominent figure in Dutch entertainment, known for his versatile talents as an actor, film director, and screenwriter. Brusse, a self-taught performer, distinguished himself with a naturalistic acting approach during a period dominated by more theatrical styles in the Netherlands. Over the span of his career, he adeptly navigated the realms of stage, film, television, radio, and commercials, becoming one of the first Dutch actors to successfully integrate these diverse platforms.

His film and television repertoire is extensive, with notable works including the beloved series Pension Hommeles (1957-1959), the classic film Ciske de Rat (1955), and the acclaimed Dokter Pulder zaait papavers (1975). Throughout his career, which lasted from 1936 to 2004, Brusse featured in 47 film and television projects, showcasing his remarkable talent and versatility.

Born in Rotterdam to author and journalist M.J. Brusse and opera singer Antje Ebes, Kees experienced early challenges with his parents' divorce. He began his acting journey at a tender age, making his film debut at just 11 years old in Merijntje Gijzens Jeugd. Brusse's contributions to the arts left an indelible mark on Dutch culture, earning him a revered place in the history of the country's entertainment industry.
