Tanya Moodie
Tanya Moodie is a distinguished Canadian actress and producer, celebrated for her remarkable contributions to both television and theatre. Born on April 16, 1972, in Ottawa, Canada, to Jamaican parents, she relocated to England at 17 to attend the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA). Her association with RADA extended beyond her studies, as she later served as an associate teacher and a council member.
Moodie made her television debut in the 1994 comedy series So Haunt Me, but it was her compelling portrayal of Hunter in Neil Gaiman's fantasy mini-series Neverwhere (1996) that marked a significant breakthrough. Throughout the 2000s, she appeared in various guest roles before securing a prominent part in the Irish medical drama The Clinic from 2008 to 2009. Notably, she portrayed Ella Thompson, John Watson's therapist, in the acclaimed series Sherlock.
Her stage work is equally impressive, with performances at renowned venues such as the Royal Shakespeare Company, Royal Court Theatre, National Theatre, and Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord. In 2016, she played Gertrude in Hamlet, directed by Simon Godwin for the RSC.
From 2019, Moodie captivated audiences as Meg in the BBC comedy series Motherland, where her poignant portrayal of a character battling cancer resonated deeply with viewers. In 2020, she starred as Catherine McKenzie in the third season of Tin Star.
Her recent work includes a role as Regina in Ten Percent (2022) and a part in Sam Mendes' film Empire of Light (2022), alongside stars such as Olivia Colman and Colin Firth. In March 2023, she featured as Serena in Rain Dogs, further showcasing her versatile talent.
