Ron Simmons

Ronald Simmons, an iconic figure in American sports, is renowned for his dual career as a professional wrestler and football player. He made his mark in the wrestling world primarily with World Championship Wrestling (WCW), where he competed under his own name. He also gained fame in World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), wrestling as Faarooq Asaad and simply Faarooq. Currently, Simmons is affiliated with WWE, contributing to their Legends program.

Simmons is celebrated for his significant achievements in wrestling, notably becoming the first African American to hold the WCW World Heavyweight Championship, a historic milestone recognized by WWE as the first Black heavyweight champion in professional wrestling. He captured the WCW World Tag Team Championship alongside Butch Reed and the United States Tag Team Championship with Big Josh. In the WWF, he triumphed as a three-time Tag Team Champion, teaming with Bradshaw in the Acolytes Protection Agency. His illustrious career was honored with his induction into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2012.

Before transitioning to wrestling, Simmons played college football at Florida State University, earning All-American honors. He went on to play professionally as a defensive tackle in the NFL for the Cleveland Browns, in the Canadian Football League for the Ottawa Rough Riders, and in the United States Football League for the Tampa Bay Bandits during the 1980s.
