Huang Hong
Huang Hong is a prominent Chinese actor and writer known for his work in skits and sitcoms. While he has had a less illustrious career as a director and producer of television series and films, his contributions to comedy have left a significant mark. Born in Harbin, he joined the People's Liberation Army (PLA) at the young age of 13. Huang studied philosophy at Liaoning University and pursued performance art at the People's Liberation Army Academy of Art.
He became a familiar face to audiences as a regular performer on the CCTV New Year's Gala, delighting viewers with his sketch comedy for more than 20 years, from 1989 to 2012. During this time, he gained widespread recognition in China, with memorable sketches such as "Anti-family Plan Guerrilla" and "Poker." He also directed and starred in films like "A Father With His 25 Children" (2001) and "Sunny Courtyard" (2007).
In 2012, Huang took on the role of head of the August First Film Studio. However, in March 2015, he was removed from this position for reasons that remain unclear, although media speculation suggested potential involvement in corruption, linking him to the disgraced general Xu Caihou. Yet, his subsequent return to the stage has led many to believe that the allegations against him were unfounded.
