Hussein Hassan Ali is a prominent figure in the film industry hailing from Kurdistan, Iraq. In 2006, he made his mark as a filmmaker with his debut feature film “Narcissus Blossom,” which gained recognition at the 56th Berlinale, where it was showcased in the Panorama section and also featured at the Toronto International Film Festival. The film earned him the Amnesty International Film Prize, highlighting its impactful storytelling.

Following this success, Hassan Ali completed his second feature, “Herman,” in 2009, which premiered at the Pusan International Film Festival. His television work includes directing 29 episodes of the Kurdish drama “Dilan” for KurdSat in 2008, and ten episodes of “My Dream” from 2009 to 2010.

In addition to his directing and writing accomplishments, Hassan Ali is a celebrated actor. He starred in Shawkat Amin Korki’s award-winning film “Crossing the Dust” (2006) and reprised his role in Korki’s “Memories on Stone” (2014). That same year, he appeared in “Mardan,” directed by Batin Ghobadi, which was Iraq’s official submission for the Oscars and premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Hassan’s 2016 film “Reseba: The Dark Wind” garnered numerous accolades, including the UNESCO Award at the Asian Pacific Screen Awards, the Muhr Award at the Dubai International Film Festival, and the FIPRESCI Prize at the Dhaka International Film Festival. Expanding his horizons, in 2019 he took on his first international project, starring in the Finnish TV series “Peacemaker,” now available for streaming.
