Michael McDonald
Michael James McDonald, born on December 31, 1964, is a multifaceted American comedian, actor, screenwriter, and director. He rose to fame as a prominent cast member of the sketch comedy series MADtv, where he became known for his unique characters and comedic timing. In addition to his work on MADtv, McDonald contributed as a writer, director, and producer for the popular ABC sitcom Cougar Town.
His film career includes notable appearances in various comedies, such as portraying Little John in Halloween Kills, Ronovan Scargle in The Happytime Murders, and Jonathan in Ghostbusters (2016). He also showcased his talents in films like The Boss, Spy, The Heat, and the Austin Powers franchise, often in memorable supporting roles.
Before diving into the entertainment industry, McDonald graduated from the University of Southern California with a degree in Business and worked as a loan officer in Los Angeles. His career path dramatically shifted after attending a sketch comedy show at the Groundling Theater, prompting him to leave banking for a career in comedy. He enrolled in the Groundlings' Improv Program and performed with the troupe from 1992 to 1997.
Joining MADtv in its fourth season in 1998, McDonald quickly became the longest-serving cast member, concluding his tenure with the show after a decade but continuing to contribute as a writer and director during its final season. He remains the only cast member to have a special dedicated to his best moments on the show, marking his significant impact on the series and comedy as a whole.
