Lola Lane

Lola Lane was an American singer and actress, born on May 21, 1906, and passing away on June 22, 1981. She was one of the four Lane Sisters, a notable family in the entertainment industry, which also included Leota, Rosemary, and Priscilla Lane. While Leota (October 25, 1903 – July 25, 1963) did not achieve the same level of fame as her siblings and moved to New York City prior to their rise, Lola, alongside Rosemary and Priscilla, appeared in several films that showcased their talents, including Four Daughters (1938), Daughters Courageous (1939), Four Wives (1939), and Four Mothers (1941).

Lola gained significant attention for her role as Gaby, a strong-willed clip joint hostess, opposite Bette Davis in the 1937 drama Marked Woman, which earned her critical praise. Following this success, Warner Bros. signed her, allowing her to portray tough characters that suited her striking looks and persona.

Throughout the 1940s, Lola continued to embrace the tough girl image, starring in films like Convicted Woman (1940), Gangs of Chicago (1940), and Mystery Ship (1941). Despite her popularity in these roles, she yearned to break free from this typecasting. Lola chose to retire at the age of forty in 1946, with her final films including supporting roles in Why Girls Leave Home (1945), Deadline at Dawn (1946), and They Made Me a Killer (1946).
