Nurettin Sönmez, born on July 24, 1978, in Istanbul, Turkey, is a prominent actor and martial arts instructor, renowned for his compelling portrayal of "Bamsı Beyrek" in the acclaimed historical drama series, Diriliş: Ertuğrul.

Sönmez hails from an immigrant background; his mother is of Albanian descent, while his father, Ümit Sönmez, works as a dentist. He pursued his higher education at Istanbul University, where he earned a degree in Mining Engineering. His passion for the performing arts led him to the Dialog Communication Acting School, founded by Can and Arsen Gürzap, followed by further studies in theatre at Yeditepe University.

His acting career commenced in 1999 with the series Akşam Güneşi, where he shared the spotlight with notable actors such as Serdar Gökhan and Pelin Batu. Sönmez gained significant recognition for his role as Gaddar Ali in the 2013 series Osmanlı'da Derin Devlet, but it was his performance as Bamsı Beyrek, starting in 2014, that solidified his fame, not only in Diriliş: Ertuğrul but also in its sequel, Kuruluş: Osman.

In addition to his acting endeavors, Sönmez is a dedicated martial arts educator, offering training sessions and seminars both in Turkey and internationally, showcasing his commitment to promoting Far Eastern sports.
