Jean-Philippe Lafont

Jean-Philippe Lafont, born on February 11, 1951, is a distinguished French baritone renowned for his impressive vocal prowess. He began his musical journey in Toulouse, his hometown, before honing his skills at the prestigious Opéra-Studio in Paris. Lafont made his operatic debut in 1974, captivating audiences as Papageno in Mozart's The Magic Flute at the Salle Favart in Paris.

Throughout his illustrious career, he has been a prominent figure in the opera scene, frequently performing in his hometown of Toulouse, where he took on the title role in Verdi's Falstaff in 1987. His talents have graced some of the world's most esteemed venues, including the Opéra-Comique in Paris, Carnegie Hall and the Metropolitan Opera in New York, La Scala in Milan, and the Royal Opera House in London.

Lafont is particularly celebrated for his portrayals of complex characters, including the four villains in Offenbach's The Tales of Hoffmann, the Comte des Grieux in Massenet's Manon, Golaud in Debussy's Pelléas et Mélisande, Barak in Strauss's Die Frau ohne Schatten, as well as the lead roles in Gianni Schicchi, Rigoletto, Boris Godunov, and Macbeth.
