Anthony Ross
Anthony Ross (February 23, 1909 – October 26, 1955) was an accomplished actor known for his performances on Broadway, television, and in film.
A native of New York City, Ross gained significant recognition for his portrayal of "the Gentleman Caller" in the original production of Tennessee Williams' acclaimed play, The Glass Menagerie, which premiered in 1944.
His film career included notable roles in productions from 20th Century Fox, such as the classic noir Kiss of Death (1947) and the Western The Gunfighter (1950). Ross also appeared in Nicholas Ray's film noir On Dangerous Ground (1952) and the cherished adventure serial Mysterious Island (1951).
In addition to his film work, Ross made his mark on television, most prominently as police Captain Richard Hale in the 1954 CBS series The Telltale Clue, showcasing his versatility as an actor.
Tragically, Anthony Ross's life was cut short when he passed away from a heart attack at the age of 46 in 1955. His contributions to the arts, particularly his memorable stage performances, have left an enduring legacy in American theater and entertainment.
