Carl Gilliard, hailing from Chicago, spent his formative years in Detroit where he graduated from Osborn High School before earning a degree from Michigan State University. He embarked on his professional journey as a radio newscaster at WGPR (107.5) in Detroit, later transitioning to a sales role with Eastman Kodak. His career then took him to the Pepsi-Cola Bottling Group, where he served as District Manager and found his way back to his passion for the arts at the Kalamazoo Civic Theatre.

In 1985, Carl relocated to Los Angeles, quickly establishing himself as a prominent figure in the city's vibrant theatre scene. His performances in over two dozen productions, including "The River Niger," "Livin' Fat," and "Bubblin' Brown Sugar," showcased his exceptional baritone voice and captivating character interpretations. This theatre foundation led to a diverse array of television and film roles in popular series such as "Freddie," "Family Matters," and "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air," along with appearances in shows like "24" and "Alias," and films including "Coach Carter" and Wes Craven's "Red Eye."

Beyond acting, Carl has made significant strides as a producer, partnering with Tony Winters to create the award-winning film "Retiring Tatiana." He also directed the impactful drama "Section 8." Additionally, Carl serves as the Ministry Director for the Faithful Central Bible Church Repertory Company and co-founded the Bill Duke Media Foundation's Youth Media Camp, nurturing the next generation of talent.
