Russell S. Doughten Jr. (February 16, 1927 – August 19, 2013) was a prominent American filmmaker and producer, renowned for his substantial contributions to Christian cinema. Doughten's work, often credited under various iterations of his name, primarily unfolded in the picturesque settings of Iowa, his home state.
Although he gained early recognition as the producer and uncredited director of the iconic 1958 sci-fi horror film *The Blob*, Doughten's most significant impact stemmed from his work on the *Thief In The Night* series. This influential collection dramatizes themes of the Rapture and the Second Coming of Christ, portraying the challenges faced by a group of believers opposing a rising Antichrist regime. The series includes:

- *A Distant Thunder* (1978)
- *Image of the Beast* (1980)
- *The Prodigal Planet* (1983)
In these films, Doughten portrayed Reverend Matthew Turner, a character who, despite his unconventional appearance—characterized by long hair and a beard—offered a unique perspective on biblical prophecies.
