1 title Acting Jan 26, 1955 Died: Oct 06, 2020 Amsterdam, Netherlands

Eddie Van Halen (January 26, 1955 - October 6, 2020) was a renowned Dutch-American guitarist, songwriter, producer, and innovator in the world of rock music. Born in the Netherlands and later relocating to Pasadena, California, Eddie and his brother Alex were initially trained in classical piano by their father, Jan Van Halen, a musician himself. Eddie's passion for music led him to take on a paper route to fund his purchase of a drum set, but after discovering Alex was playing it more often, he "borrowed" Alex’s guitar, sparking a lifelong dedication to the instrument.

Together, the Van Halen brothers formed a band called Mammoth, which evolved into Van Halen after recruiting frontman David Lee Roth and bassist Michael Anthony. Their self-titled debut album, released in 1978, became one of the most influential and bestselling albums in rock history, showcasing Eddie's groundbreaking guitar techniques that would shape the genre and earn him recognition as a guitar legend.

Over the years, the band experienced significant lineup changes; after a successful decade with Roth, they brought in Sammy Hagar, leading to another era of hits. Despite a less successful period with Gary Cherone, Van Halen would later reunite with both Roth and Hagar, featuring Eddie's son, Wolfgang, on bass.

Eddie battled tongue cancer in the 2000s, undergoing surgery and achieving remission before succumbing to the disease in 2020. His passing prompted tributes from fans and musicians globally, celebrating his lasting impact on music.
