Astrid Lepa
Astrid Lepa (April 7, 1924 – November 30, 2015) was a celebrated Estonian actress, screenwriter, television director, and voice actress whose career spanned over six decades, starting in the 1940s and continuing until shortly before her passing. Born Astrid Lepler in Keila, Harju County, she was the daughter of Eduard and Marta Lepler. After the family changed their surname to Lepa in 1936, Astrid graduated from Tallinn 9th Secondary School in 1942. She pursued her passion for acting at the Estonian Drama Theatre and further honed her skills at the Tallinn Conservatory from 1948 to 1950.
In 1952, Lepa took on the role of artistic director at the Nõmme Cultural House and later served as the administrator and director at the Pioneer cinema in Tallinn. Her significant contributions to Eesti Televisioon (ETV) began in 1957, where she excelled as an assistant director, screenwriter, and director. Notable works from her time at ETV include the musical films "Kolmest kaheteistkümneni" (1965) and "Suvel" (1968), along with the series "Muusikaelu probleeme ja sündmusi" (1963-1965).
Lepa's film career featured memorable performances, including her role as Juula in the 1964 film "Põrgupõhja uus Vanapagan" and as Taavi's mother in the 1970 drama "Tuulevaikus." She also lent her voice to numerous films and radio plays, showcasing her versatility as an artist. Lepa was married to baritone Harry Vilpart until his death in 1997, and they had one son, Margus Lepa, who followed in the creative footsteps of his parents.
