Jiří Štěpnička
Jiří Štěpnička, born Jiří Samec on April 16, 1947, in London, is a distinguished Czech actor renowned for his contributions to film and theater. He is the son of acclaimed Czech actress Jiřina Štěpničková and Jan Samka, a drawing professor from Strakonice. Jiřina married Samka shortly before Jiří's birth, which granted him British citizenship and five baptismal names: Jiří Jan Jaroslav Martin Otto.
Following the family’s return to Czechoslovakia, Jiřina faced significant challenges, including an attempt to emigrate due to political pressures. This endeavor led to her imprisonment for ten years, during which Jiří was raised by his grandparents. It wasn't until he was thirteen that his mother was released from prison and rejoined him in Prague, thanks in part to the support of director Martin Frič.
Jiří Štěpnička's career spans several decades, during which he has become a prominent figure in Czech cinema.
