Gary Rossington, a key figure in rock music, began his musical journey in the summer of 1964 when he co-founded a band called "The Noble Five" with friends Ronnie Van Zant, Allen Collins, Larry Junstrom, and Bob Burns. This ensemble would eventually evolve into the legendary group Lynyrd Skynyrd. The band rose to fame in 1973 with the release of their debut album, pronounced 'lĕh-'nérd 'skin-'nérd, which featured the iconic hit "Free Bird." Rossington, known for his exceptional guitar skills, played a pivotal role in shaping the band's sound, famously performing lead guitar on tracks like "Tuesday's Gone" and the slide guitar on "Free Bird," utilizing his cherished 1959 Gibson Les Paul, affectionately named "Berneice" after his mother.

In 1980, Rossington teamed up with Collins to establish The Rossington-Collins Band, which produced two albums before disbanding in 1982 following a personal tragedy. Despite the challenges throughout his career, Rossington remains an enduring presence in Lynyrd Skynyrd, continuing to tour with the band. Following the passing of keyboardist Billy Powell on January 28, 2009, Rossington stands as the last original member in the current lineup, carrying forth the legacy of a band that has profoundly influenced rock music for decades.
