Gunnar Kilgas

Gunnar Kilgas (May 8, 1926 – August 6, 2005) was a distinguished Estonian actor and theatre director, whose contributions significantly shaped the performing arts in Estonia. Born in Narva, Kilgas embarked on his artistic journey by graduating from the Estonian State Theatre Institute in 1949.

His professional career took off at the Vanemuine Theatre, where he showcased his talent as an actor from 1951 to 1960. Kilgas then transitioned to the Estonian Drama Theatre, where he not only performed as an actor from 1960 to 1969 but also began to make his mark as a director. His ability to bring stories to life on stage earned him a respected place in the theatre community.

In 1969, Kilgas made a significant shift to television, becoming the director of the Teleteater at Estonian Television, a role he maintained until 1986. During his time there, he played a pivotal role in adapting theatrical performances for the screen, thereby broadening the reach of Estonian theatre to a wider audience.

Throughout his career, Kilgas's artistic vision and dedication contributed to the richness of Estonian culture, leaving a lasting legacy that continues to inspire future generations in the performing arts.
