1 title Acting Nov 22, 1970 Gwangju, South Jeolla Province, South Korea

Joseph Hyung-min Son, born on November 22, 1970, is a South Korean-American with a multifaceted career that has seen him transition from the entertainment industry to the world of combat sports, and ultimately into a life marked by serious legal troubles. Son gained recognition as an actor for his role in the 1997 cult classic, *Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery*. Beyond acting, he made his mark in the combat sports arena as a mixed martial artist, kickboxer, and professional wrestler, participating in notable organizations such as the Ultimate Fighting Championship and K-1 Kickboxing.

However, Son's life took a dramatic turn in 2008 when he was arrested in connection with a brutal 1990 cold case involving forcible rape, kidnapping, and torture, following DNA evidence that linked him to the crime. An accomplice was also convicted in the case, but due to the statute of limitations, some charges against Son were dismissed. In 2011, he was convicted of torture, receiving a sentence ranging from seven years to life in prison. His time behind bars took a darker turn when he was implicated in the death of his cellmate, resulting in an additional 27-year sentence for voluntary manslaughter. Son's story is a stark reminder of how quickly one's life can change from fame to infamy.
