Graham Hunt
Graham Hunt, born in 1986 in Shingle Springs, California, was an accomplished American climber renowned for his audacious free solo ascents. His life was tragically cut short on May 16, 2015, when he lost his life during a wingsuit jump in Yosemite National Park at the age of 29.
Affectionately nicknamed "Grambo" by friends, Graham's ascent in the climbing community was rapid. He transitioned from the climbing gyms of Sacramento to the iconic walls of Yosemite, where he earned accolades for his first ascents, including numerous climbs graded at 5.12. Recognized for his skills, he was often sought after as a reliable partner for challenging exploits in the valley.
In his later years, Graham shifted his focus to wingsuit flying. Despite only five years of experience in the sport, he quickly became one of its most skilled practitioners. Photographer and climber Shawn Reeder remarked on Graham's remarkable talent, noting that he had become one of the top wingsuit pilots globally. Alongside his close friend Dean Potter, Graham achieved significant feats, including a record-setting wingsuit BASE flight from the Eiger, lasting nearly three minutes and covering six kilometers.
The tragic accident at Taft Point that claimed his life, along with Potter's, left a profound impact on the climbing and base jumping communities. While Graham remained relatively unknown outside of these circles, his legacy as a fearless adventurer continues to inspire thrill-seekers and climbing enthusiasts worldwide.
