George Benson

George Washington Benson, born on March 22, 1943, is an acclaimed American guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter who began his professional journey as a jazz guitarist at just 19 years old. A musical prodigy from childhood, Benson gained recognition in the 1960s for his work in soul jazz alongside artists like Jack McDuff. He later embarked on a solo career that showcased his versatility, blending jazz with pop and R&B, and displaying his signature scat singing.

In 1976, his groundbreaking album "Breezin'" reached number one on the Billboard album chart and earned triple-platinum status, solidifying his place in music history. Throughout the 1980s, his concerts drew large audiences, and he continues to enjoy a devoted fan base. With ten Grammy Awards to his name and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Benson’s contributions to music are widely recognized.

Hailing from Pittsburgh's Hill District, Benson first played the ukulele at seven, earning money in a local drugstore. By the age of eight, he was performing in an unlicensed nightclub. His early recordings included the single “She Makes Me Mad,” and he graduated from Schenley High School. At 21, he released his debut album, "The New Boss Guitar," and went on to work with jazz legends and record for CTI Records, achieving significant success with albums such as "Bad Benson" and "The Other Side of Abbey Road." His collaborations and innovative sound have left an indelible mark on the music industry.
