Harry Kümel
Harry Kümel, born on January 27, 1940, is a distinguished Belgian filmmaker recognized for his significant contributions to the cinematic arts. He gained widespread acclaim for his 1971 horror film *Daughters of Darkness* (*Les lèvres rouges*), a provocative vampire tale featuring the iconic Delphine Seyrig, which has since garnered a dedicated following in both Europe and the United States. That same year, Kümel also directed *Malpertuis*, an adaptation of Jean Ray’s 1943 novel, which starred the legendary Orson Welles.
In addition to his work as a director, Kümel has dedicated a significant portion of his career to education. Since 1969, he has shared his expertise with aspiring filmmakers at various prestigious institutions, including the Dutch Film and Television Academy in Amsterdam, the Institut des Arts de Diffusion in Brussels, the Royal Institute for Theatre, Cinema and Sound, and the Université libre de Bruxelles.
