Anurag Kashyap

Anurag Kashyap is a prominent Indian filmmaker celebrated for his influential role in the rise of independent cinema in India. Renowned for his distinctive storytelling, he has made significant strides in the industry by championing new talent and producing groundbreaking films. In recognition of his artistic contributions, the French government honored him with the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 2013, elevating his status on the international stage.

Kashyap's career took off after his work as a co-writer on the critically acclaimed crime drama "Satya" in 1998, directed by Ram Gopal Varma. He made his directorial debut with "Paanch," a film that ultimately faced censorship challenges and did not see a theatrical release. Nevertheless, he went on to create several noteworthy films, including "Black Friday," "Dev.D," and "Gangs of Wasseypur," each showcasing his unique filmmaking style and narrative depth.

In addition to his cinematic endeavors, Kashyap is actively involved in social initiatives, serving on the board of Aangan, an NGO dedicated to safeguarding vulnerable children across India. He is also a co-founder of two production houses: Anurag Kashyap Films and Phantom Films, the latter established in collaboration with fellow directors Vikramaditya Motwane, Vikas Bahl, and producer Madhu Mantena. Through these ventures, Kashyap continues to shape the landscape of Indian cinema.
