Raised in Thessaloniki, she pursued her passion for acting at the Drama School of the State Theatre of Northern Greece, where she honed her craft before embarking on her professional journey in the early 1980s. Her stage debut was marked by a collaboration with the esteemed director Andreas Voutsinas, and she later worked with notable figures such as Minos Volanakis and Giorgos Vouros.

Fotopoulou transitioned to television in 1991 with a role in the Scandinavian series *Amforans gata*, filmed in Greece.
