Born in Chandigarh into a Punjabi family, Mahie Gill developed a passion for the performing arts early in life. She pursued her education in theater, earning a Master’s degree from Panjab University in 1998.

Gill's acting career began with her debut in the Punjabi film "Hawayein," which marked the start of her journey in both regional cinema and theater. Her breakthrough role came when renowned filmmaker Anurag Kashyap spotted her at a party and cast her as Paro in the critically acclaimed film "Dev D." This role showcased her talent and garnered significant attention in the industry.

She later appeared in Ram Gopal Varma's "Not a Love Story," a film inspired by the infamous Neeraj Grover murder case in 2008. This project further solidified her reputation as a versatile actress. In 2011, she starred in "Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster," alongside Jimmy Shergill and Randeep Hooda. The film received positive reviews and earned Gill a nomination for Best Actress at the prestigious Filmfare Awards, highlighting her remarkable contribution to Indian cinema.
