Wes Chatham
Wes Chatham, born on October 11, 1978, is an accomplished American actor renowned for his portrayal of Amos Burton in the acclaimed science fiction series The Expanse (2015–2022) and for his role as Castor in The Hunger Games film series (2014-2015).
Chatham hails from Atlanta, Georgia, and spent his formative years in North Georgia. His parents' separation when he was just two years old meant he was primarily raised by his mother alongside his siblings. A pivotal moment in his early life occurred when his mother brought him along to a Tide commercial audition for his sister in Savannah. While waiting, the casting director noticed young Wes, leading to his first acting gig at the tender age of seven.
At thirteen, Chatham moved in with his father. Faced with challenges in school, he was expelled and attended a second chance school in Lawrenceville, where he discovered his passion for the arts through a mentoring program with a local theater company. After high school, he served as an aviation firefighter on the USS Essex for four years. His acting career took off unexpectedly when Denzel Washington's film Antwone Fisher was filmed on his ship, leading to his first movie role and a move to Hollywood.
Chatham's career flourished with roles in notable films such as In the Valley of Elah (2007) and W. (2008), and he gained further acclaim in The Unit on CBS. His breakout performances in The Help (2011) and The Hunger Games franchise solidified his status in the industry, culminating in his celebrated role in The Expanse.
