Her multicultural background is rooted in her Hungarian father and Russian mother, who immigrated to the United States in 1984 after meeting in Hungary and passing through a refugee camp in Italy. Bruckner is the eldest of four siblings, including two sisters and a brother.

Bruckner's journey in the entertainment industry began early, at just 11 years old, when she appeared in commercials, television pilots, and landed a role on the soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful in 1999. Her breakout performance came at 15 in the independent film Blue Car (2002), where she portrayed a high school student entangled in a complex affair with her teacher, played by David Strathairn. This role earned her critical acclaim, including a nomination for the Independent Spirit Award for "Best Female Lead."

Throughout the 2000s, she took on various supporting roles in films like The Glass House (2001) and Murder by Numbers (2002), along with guest appearances on hit TV shows like 24 and Alias.
