Maverick Carter
Maverick Carter is a prominent American entrepreneur and media figure known for his significant contributions to sports and entertainment. Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, he was raised by social worker Katherine Powers and Otis Carter, who spent much of Maverick's early life in federal prison. He developed a close friendship with NBA superstar LeBron James during their time playing basketball at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron, Ohio. After high school, Maverick pursued collegiate basketball at Western Michigan University before transferring to The University of Akron, where he shifted his focus to business.
While attending college, Carter took an internship with Nike, which led him to leave academia to become a field representative for the brand. Since 2006, he has been the business manager for LeBron James, co-founding the sports agency LRMR alongside James, Rich Paul, and Randy Mims. Despite facing challenges, such as the controversial marketing event known as "The Decision," Carter achieved notable success by orchestrating a partnership between LRMR and Fenway Sports Group, granting James a minority ownership in Liverpool F.C.
Carter is also recognized for his creative ventures, having produced "The LeBrons," a series of commercials featuring animated versions of LeBron. Together with James, he established SpringHill Entertainment, which has collaborated with Warner Bros. on various projects, including the Disney XD series "Becoming" and the Starz show "Survivor's Remorse." In addition to managing LeBron, Carter has also worked with other clients, including former NFL quarterback Johnny Manziel.
