Darry Cowl, originally named André Darricau, was a prominent French actor and musician born on August 27, 1925, in Vittel. With a career that spanned several decades, Cowl made a significant mark in French cinema, particularly noted for his role as a concierge in the film *Pas sur la bouche* (Not on the Lips), for which he received the César Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in 2004. This film marked his final performance.

Cowl's rise to fame began when he was cast by the renowned playwright and filmmaker Sacha Guitry in *Assassins et voleurs* (1956), which established him as a notable figure in the industry. His popularity soared after portraying Antoine Péralou in the 1957 classic *Le Triporteur* (The Tricycle). Known for his penchant for gambling, Cowl often participated in projects that didn't necessarily challenge his acting skills, sometimes admitting to not reading scripts or even knowing the titles of films before acting in them.

In 1974, he showcased his talent as Major Archibald in the satirical film *Don't Touch the White Woman!*. Throughout his career, he expressed a desire to return to the theater with a role in *Hold Up* in September 2005; however, health issues hindered this ambition. Cowl passed away on February 14, 2006, in Neuilly-sur-Seine due to complications from lung cancer at the age of 80.
