Ênio Gonçalves
Ênio Gonçalves was a prominent Brazilian actor, director, and playwright, born on August 28, 1938, in Porto Alegre. He passed away in São Paulo on October 5, 2013. With a degree in journalism, Gonçalves made significant contributions to the Brazilian arts, appearing in over 30 films and 20 telenovelas, alongside numerous theatrical productions, beginning with "Auto de Natal" in 1959.
His passion for film led him to study directing at the prestigious "Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia" in Rome, Italy. He gained widespread recognition for his role in Nelson Rodrigues's play "Toda Nudez Será Castigada" in 1965, directed by Zbigniew Ziembinski, which marked a pivotal moment in his career.
Throughout his lifetime, Gonçalves authored around 20 plays, showcasing his versatility and creativity. His notable works include "2 ou 3 Buracos" (1976), "Dia Torto" (1976), "Vem Contudo" (1977), and "Até as Orelhas" (2004). In addition to his original pieces, he was skilled at adapting literature for the stage and screen, transforming works such as J. Guimarães Rosa's "Sorôco, Sua Mãe, Sua Filha" (1975) and Erico Verissimo's "Sonata" into compelling performances.
