After completing high school, she pursued her passion for acting by moving to Los Angeles, where she trained at the Pasadena Playhouse College of Theatre Arts, earning recognition as its "most promising student." Struthers began her career with appearances in regional theater and quickly transitioned to television, showcasing her skills on variety shows like "The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour" and "The Tim Conway Comedy Hour."

Her breakthrough came in 1971 when she joined the cast of the groundbreaking sitcom "All in the Family," portraying the lovable yet naive Gloria Bunker Stivic. Her performance earned her two Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress, solidifying her status in television history. After seven successful seasons, Struthers left the show to explore new opportunities, making her Broadway debut in "Wally's Cafe" in 1981 and later starring in a gender-swapped version of "The Odd Couple."
