Randy Jones, born on September 13, 1952, is an iconic American singer celebrated for his role as the cowboy in the legendary disco group Village People. He was a prominent member from 1977 to 1980 and later returned from 1987 to 1990, contributing to the group's distinctive sound and vibrant performances.

Jones's formative years were spent in Raleigh, North Carolina, where he graduated from William G. Enloe High School in 1970. During his high school years, he co-founded the Drama Club, known as Amicus Scaena. He furthered his studies at the North Carolina School of the Arts before relocating to New York City to pursue his artistic ambitions.

In his personal life, Jones celebrated a commitment ceremony with his partner of two decades, Will Grega, in 2004 at a New York City club, advocating for LGBTQ rights and marriage equality. The couple co-authored the book "Out Sounds: The Gay and Lesbian Music Alternative," published in 1996.

In 2007, Jones ventured into a solo career with the release of his disco and pop album, "Ticket to the World." His artistic versatility was showcased when he appeared in the "Too Many Dicks" music video by Flight of the Conchords in 2009 and as himself in the video game Postal III in 2011.

The year 2014 saw him take on the role of Tiberius in the Off-Broadway musical "The Anthem," while 2017 marked the release of his single "Hard Times," which reached number 42 on the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart, making it the first solo charting success for a Village People member.
