**Leonid Kuravlyov**

Leonid Kuravlyov is a distinguished Soviet and Russian actor, recognized as a People’s Artist of the RSFSR since 1976. Born in Moscow into a working-class family, he faced early adversity. His father, Vyacheslav Yakovlevich Kuravlyov (1909–1979), was a locksmith, while his mother, Valentina Dmitriyevna Kuravlyova (1916–1993), worked as a hairdresser. During the onset of the Great Patriotic War in 1941, Valentina was unjustly accused of counter-revolutionary activities, leading to her exile in Karaganda, Kazakh SSR. After enduring years of separation, she finally reunited with her son in 1948 and returned to Moscow permanently in 1951.

In 1955, Kuravlyov enrolled at VGIK, becoming a student of Boris Bibikov, and graduated in 1960. He began his film career as a student when he caught the attention of Vasily Shukshin, starring in his diploma film and the popular melodrama *When the Trees Were Tall* (1961). His breakout role came in 1964 with the comedy *There Is Such a Lad*, marking the beginning of his rise to fame.

Kuravlyov is well-remembered for his roles in notable films such as *The Little Golden Calf* (1968), *Viy* (1967), and *Seventeen Moments of Spring* (1973). The 1970s saw him star in top-grossing comedies like *Afonya* (1975) and *Ivan Vasilievich: Back to the Future* (1973). Later in his career, he hosted the acclaimed TV program *The World of Books* and was honored with the IV class Order “For Merit to the Fatherland” in 2012.
