Subhendu Chatterjee
Subhendu Chatterjee was born to Shailendra Chattopadhyay and Manimala Devi. His journey in medicine began in 1953 when he enrolled at Calcutta Medical College, culminating in his graduation with an M.B.B.S. in 1960. Following his medical training, Chatterjee dedicated part of his career to Civil Defence before taking a position with the Kolkata Municipal Corporation.
Beyond his medical career, Chatterjee nurtured a passion for the performing arts, particularly amateur theatre, where he learned under the guidance of Jnanesh Mukherjee, a prominent figure in Bengali theatre and cinema. His involvement with the Indian People's Theatre Association (IPTA) exemplifies his commitment to the arts, paving the way for his foray into films where he sought to make a name for himself as an actor.
Chatterjee is also known for his family ties to the arts; his elder son, Saswata Chatterjee, has carved out a successful career as a Bengali actor, while his younger son resides in the United States. Throughout his life, Subhendu Chatterjee has balanced his roles as a medical professional and a passionate artist, leaving a mark in both fields.
