Wendell Niles (December 29, 1904 – March 28, 1994) was a prominent figure in the golden age of American radio, renowned for his captivating voice and versatile announcing skills. His career launched in the 1920s, where he toured with his own orchestra, sharing the stage with notable musicians like the Dorsey Brothers and Bix Beiderbecke. In 1935, Niles relocated to Los Angeles, where he collaborated with comedy legends George Burns and Gracie Allen.

He became a familiar voice on numerous iconic radio programs, including The Charlotte Greenwood Show, Hedda Hopper's Hollywood, and The Adventures of Philip Marlowe. Notably, on February 15, 1950, he starred in the radio pilot for The Adventures of the Scarlet Cloak alongside Gerald Mohr. Niles was instrumental in pioneering radio dramas with his brother, Ken, a venture that culminated in the creation of Theatre of the Mind.

Wendell Niles gained fame in a unique way by conducting a man-on-the-street program at the intersection of Hollywood and Vine in 1936, which popularized the location as a symbol of Hollywood culture. He also toured with Bob Hope during World War II and narrated the Academy Award-winning short film about tennis legend Bill Tilden. His film credits include Knute Rockne, All American, alongside Ronald Reagan.

In television, Niles was the original announcer for Let's Make a Deal during its inaugural season and hosted various other shows. He and his brother Ken Niles made history as the first siblings to receive stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Niles passed away at the age of 89 in his Toluca Lake home, leaving behind a rich legacy in entertainment.
