Amy Halpern

Amy Halpern was a prolific filmmaker renowned for her extensive body of work, which includes nearly forty short films, predominantly shot in 16mm, and her feature film, FALLING LESSONS, released in 1991. Born and raised in New York City, Halpern dedicated over four decades of her life to the vibrant film community in Los Angeles.

Her artistic journey culminated in June 2022 when she completed a remarkable series of 12 new films, showcasing her innovative storytelling and unique vision. These works were premiered at a festival in Spain, marking a significant highlight in her career and demonstrating her ongoing commitment to her craft.

Tragically, just six weeks after her festival debut, Halpern was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), a battle she faced with courage until her untimely passing. Her legacy, however, lives on through her films, which continue to inspire and resonate with audiences and filmmakers alike. Halpern’s contributions to the film industry reflect her passion and creativity, leaving a lasting impact that will be remembered in the world of independent cinema.
