Roxane Mesquida
Roxane Mesquida, born on October 1, 1981, is a talented French actress renowned for her captivating performances. Hailing from Marseille, she spent her formative years in Le Pradet, a quaint town nestled between Hyères and Toulon in the Var département. Her journey into acting began serendipitously at the age of 13 when she was spotted by director Manuel Pradal while strolling near her home. This encounter led her to star in Pradal's film, "Marie Baie des Anges," the following summer.
Mesquida's career took a significant turn in 1998 when she appeared in "L'École de la chair," directed by Benoît Jacquot. It was her collaboration with the provocative filmmaker Catherine Breillat that truly defined her artistic journey. Their partnership began with "À ma sœur!" (Fat Girl) and continued with "Sex Is Comedy," culminating in their work on "Une vieille Maîtresse" in 2006 alongside Asia Argento.
Initially aspiring to attend Art School (the Beaux-Arts), Mesquida chose to focus on her acting career instead, although her passion for the arts remains strong, often leading her to museums where she admires works like Edvard Munch's "The Scream." Among her contemporaries, she respects actors like Romain Duris and Scarlett Johansson, but her ultimate inspiration is Romy Schneider, whose entire filmography she has watched. Firmly believing in artistic integrity, Mesquida has expressed a strong aversion to financial dependency on commercial cinema, preferring to pursue meaningful roles over mainstream success.
