Deney Terrio
Denis George Mahan, widely recognized as Deney Terrio, was born on June 15, 1950. He is a prominent American choreographer, former actor, and the charismatic host of the popular television musical variety show Dance Fever, which aired from 1979 to 1985. In a notable incident in 1991, Terrio filed a lawsuit against Merv Griffin, the show's producer, for sexual harassment; however, the $11.3 million case was ultimately dismissed.
Terrio rose to prominence as the dance coach and choreographer for the iconic John Travolta in the classic film Saturday Night Fever. His success on Dance Fever opened doors for him in the film industry, leading to appearances in notable movies such as The Idolmaker, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, A Night in Heaven, and Knights of the City. He also made guest appearances on television shows including The Love Boat, further solidifying his status during that era.
In the 1990s, Terrio toured various nightclubs, showcasing his dance talents and serving as a judge for numerous dance competitions. He received a humorous mention in Steve Martin's film Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, where Martin's character humorously referenced Terrio.
In recent years, Deney has participated in various VH1 specials and co-hosted the 2004 PBS program Get Down Tonight: The Disco Explosion, celebrating the disco era alongside actress Karen Lynn Gorney. Currently, he hosts a disco-themed radio show on Sirius satellite radio and continues to work as a choreographer and competitor in regional Dancing with the Stars events.
