Marvin Hagler
Marvelous Marvin Hagler, born Marvin Nathaniel Hagler on May 23, 1954, and passing on March 13, 2021, was a distinguished American professional boxer and occasional film actor, active in the boxing world from 1973 to 1987. He held the title of undisputed middleweight champion from 1980 to 1987, during which he triumphed over eleven opponents for the championship, achieving knockouts in nearly all of these encounters except for one. Over his career, Hagler successfully defended his title twelve times and boasts the highest knockout rate among all undisputed middleweight champions, at an impressive 78 percent. His remarkable six-year and seven-month tenure as the undisputed middleweight champion stands as the longest continuous reign in the past century. Additionally, his overall duration as a middleweight champion is second only to Tony Zale, whose reign was not undisputed initially and was interrupted by his military service during World War II. Known by the nickname "Marvelous," Hagler grew frustrated that commentators often omitted this title. Consequently, he legally adopted the name "Marvelous Marvin Hagler" in 1982, ensuring his moniker would be recognized.
