Bruce Lee
Bruce Jun Fan Lee, also known as Lee Siu Lung, was born on November 27, 1940, in San Francisco, California, while his parents were touring with the Chinese Opera. He was raised in Hong Kong, where he began his career as a child actor, appearing in over 20 films. At the age of 13, he started training in Wing Chun gung fu under the esteemed master Yip Man. When he turned 18, Bruce moved to the United States, settling in Seattle, where he initially worked at a family friend's restaurant. He later enrolled at the University of Washington, focusing on philosophy.
In Seattle, Bruce began teaching gung fu and established the Jun Fan Gung Fu Institute, followed by two additional schools in Oakland and Los Angeles. During this period, he married Linda and welcomed their two children, Brandon and Shannon. His big break came in the mid-1960s when he was discovered during an exhibition at the Long Beach Internationals, leading to his role as Kato in the television series The Green Hornet.
Simultaneously, Bruce was developing his own martial art philosophy, which he named Jeet Kune Do, emphasizing simplicity, directness, and personal freedom rather than adhering to traditional forms. After The Green Hornet's cancellation, he faced challenges in Hollywood, prompting a return to Hong Kong, where he starred in three films that shattered box office records. His final film, Enter the Dragon, released posthumously after his untimely death in 1973, solidified his status as an international icon. Today, Bruce Lee's legacy of innovation, self-expression, and equality continues to inspire countless individuals worldwide.
