His musical journey began in his teenage years at the Blues Box, a cultural hub in Baton Rouge run by the legendary guitarist Tabby Thomas. Here, he honed his skills alongside blues icons like Raful Neal and Henry Gray, gaining invaluable experience from the very best.

After graduating from Vandebilt Catholic High School in May 1985, Benoit formed a trio in 1987, which allowed him to perform at various venues in Baton Rouge and New Orleans. By 1991, he expanded his reach, touring extensively across the southern United States and beyond, a journey that continues to this day. In addition to his musical endeavors, Benoit is passionate about environmental issues, founding the "Voice of the Wetlands" organization in 2003 to advocate for coastal wetlands preservation.

His contributions to music have been recognized with his induction into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame on May 16, 2010. Benoit's talent has also graced the silver screen, as he appears in the IMAX documentary "Hurricane on the Bayou." A devoted fan of the New Orleans Saints, Benoit remains a significant figure in the blues community and beyond.
