Benjamin Biolay
Benjamin Biolay, born on January 20, 1973, is a multifaceted French artist renowned for his talents as a singer, songwriter, musician, record producer, and actor. He shares a familial connection to the music world through his sister, Coralie Clément, for whom he composed and produced her first three albums. His personal life included a marriage to actress Chiara Mastroianni, daughter of iconic figures Catherine Deneuve and Marcello Mastroianni, from 2002 until their separation in 2005; they welcomed a daughter, Anna, in April 2003.
Biolay’s vocal style is often likened to that of Étienne Daho, blending seamlessly into the French pop landscape. Notably, he collaborated with singer Keren Ann on her debut albums and significantly contributed to Henri Salvador's acclaimed comeback record, Chambre avec Vue. His extensive work as a writer and producer has enriched the careers of many French music legends, including Juliette Gréco, Françoise Hardy, and Vanessa Paradis.
In 2004, he crafted most of the soundtrack for the film Clara et Moi and released an album titled Home with his then-wife. After a brief hiatus from major label support following two rock-oriented albums, Biolay achieved a creative resurgence with his independent project, La Superbe, released in 2009. He continued to evolve his sound with subsequent albums, including the soundtracks for Pourquoi tu pleures in 2011 and Vengeance in 2012, solidifying his status as a key figure in contemporary French music.
