Born in Paris's 17th arrondissement, she hailed from a family with political ties, as her father, Renaudin, and maternal grandfather were involved in politics.

Catherine embarked on her acting career with her film debut in 1962's "The Burning Court." Her talent quickly garnered attention, leading her to a notable role in the acclaimed 1972 television miniseries "Les Rois maudits." Rich's performance in the theatrical production "La Dame de chez Maxim" earned her a nomination for a prestigious Molière Award in 1991, highlighting her prowess in live performance.

Rich was married to fellow actor Claude Rich, with whom she shared a life and two daughters, along with an adopted son. Their partnership spanned decades until Claude's passing in 2017 due to cancer.
