Derek Long
Derek Long is a versatile actor, instructor, and director based in Los Angeles, with a rich career encompassing stage, film, and voiceover performances.
Originally hailing from rural Wisconsin, Derek developed a passion for theatre at a young age. He pursued this interest academically at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, a small institution where he showcased his talent in leading roles in productions such as CABARET, OEDIPUS, and JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR.
Following his graduation, Derek expanded his theatrical repertoire in Chicago, where he delved into both stage and film acting. His journey eventually took him to Los Angeles, where he earned notable roles in independent films like SOCKET, 3-DAY WEEKEND, and MAKE THE YULETIDE GAY, the latter of which earned him the People’s Choice Award at the San Diego Film Festival.
In addition to his film work, Derek remains active in the theatre scene across Los Angeles, Santa Monica, and Long Beach, participating in productions including HAMLET, CLOUD 9, and CATCHING THE BUTCHER. He is also a panel judge for the national PANNDORA’S BOX Annual New Works Festival in Southern California.
Recently, Derek has embraced the roles of director and acting instructor, conducting classes in Santa Monica and Long Beach. He is a firm believer in the importance of community and openness in theatre, regardless of location. Outside of his artistic endeavors, Derek enjoys gardening and shares his life with his wife, two cats, and a dog.
